One Step Closer to Vaseline
There is a Director of Chaos who is the person in charge of organizing Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting. High Point University, a top “Up and Coming School” and one of the top regional campuses in the South, has a Director of Wow. But how nice would it be to the Fall Color Forester for the Ohio Department of Natural Resources! Casey Burdick monitors the progression of fall foliage across the state. There are fall color updates on the ODNR website http://www.ohiodnr.com/home_page/NewsReleases/tabid/18276/EntryId/2485/Fall-Color-Beginning-to-Appear-Throughout-Ohio.aspx From the ODNR website, she was quoted, “Many maple and ash trees are welcoming us into this year’s fall color season. The white ash trees are showing dark purples while the green ash are glowing with vibrant yellows and golden oranges. Various maples, especially along the edges of woods and in urban areas, are showing some early color; dogwoods are also showing some awesome dark reds.” There are activities planned across Ohio to celebrate the fall colors. And while heading outside to enjoy the colors, stop at Boyd Glass to see glassmaking demonstrated firsthand.
Since we have done this before, we knew there would be a transition color: Cobaline changing from Cobalt to Vaseline. Cobaline will fluoresce under a black light and to date we have made the following items:
| Willie mouse | Little Luck unicorn | Tomahawk | Boyd Special Train |
| Cat Slipper | Chick Salt | Scottie Salt |
It's no surprise: our world is getting smaller and recent ads reminded us that the followers of the Jewish faith ushered in a New Year at the end of September -- Rosh Hashanah. This high holy day is celebrated in various ways, and we learned that they dip the challah bread in honey as well as slices of apple. What better way to honor someone you know who celebrates Rosh Hashanah than with a Boyd Glass honey jar! We have a variety of colors available. Stock up on them now for next year, or present one to an unsuspecting friend this fall! The Honey Jar is a covered honey pot that we bought from the company liquidating Imperial Glass in 1984.
We have still been cleaning house and have added additional older Boyd Glass items. These can be found on the Boyd Glass website under the latest sub-category: Old Boyd, created under the category: Specialty. Most recently we added various items in Alexandrite – 4-1/2” Swan, Duck Salt, Elizabeth, and Willie. And we also added in Alexandrite Carnival – 5” Hen, Bow Slipper, Bunny Salt, Cat Slipper, Jewel Box, and Zack. We have also added older colors of Pooche – Aruba Slag, March Carnival, Medley Slag, Sea Mist Swirl, Teal Slag, Toffee Slag, and Waterloo.
It is never too early for Boyd Glass to prepare our handpainted list of Christmas items. Barbara Newton has been busy painting items in Cobaline Satin - Willie the mouse, Little Luck the unicorn, and Boyd Special Train set. These three items will be dated, signed and numbered. And the total numbers that we are painting for Christmas 2011: 75 mice, 75 unicorns and 30 trains sets. She is painting a gingerbread man holding a candy cane on all, and there also will be holly and berries. The individual train cars will have a theme of candy on each. We will try to upload the pictures to our website as the final product becomes available. Barbara will also paint the Chick Salt in Cobaline Satin, and it will match the same theme of the other 2011 specialty items. Due to the very limited production, if you want one of these special items, check with us to be certain you are on the list.
Boyd Glass will continue to offer free shipping on orders over $50. This offer is for US orders only and is also good for those who call us and do not like to order off the internet.
